"Entrepreneurship through technology serving a social cause."
That is, Social Technopreneurship.
Entrepreneurship plays two significant roles where it comes to economic development and poverty reduction. First, entrepreneurship increasingly contributes to the creation of new jobs as well as growth in productivity and value add. Second, many technological interventions are converted into innovative products or services by entrepreneurs for the benefit of the wider society.
While most research and development is carried out in large firms or universities, subsequent implementation of the research outcomes, however, depends on entrepreneurial individuals who economically exploit these opportunities.
Entrepreneurship has thus an important function for technological transfer from research institutions to the general society. This technological transfer further contributes to the economic development of a country, potentially solving complex societal issues.
